SOP for LHU Newcomers: Preparing Your Accommodation Before University Life Begins

Living away from home for the first time, you may wonder whether to stay in a dormitory or rent a room, what to bring, and how to choose a suitable place. Follow these steps to prepare for your new home.
Step 1. Check Your Campus Location on ME
Lac Hong University’s campuses are close to one another, making travel convenient. Log in to ME, open your class schedule, and check the campus for each session. The location includes a Google Maps link to help you find your way.
Before your first class, try travelling from your accommodation to campus so you can plan your journey.
Step 2. Set Your Budget and Choose Your Accommodation
Discuss your monthly budget with your family, including rent, electricity, water, internet, parking, and transport. Then explore dormitory or rental options that suit your needs.
If you need assistance, contact the Office of Student Affairs for guidance on accommodation information.
Step 3. View the Room and Clarify the Terms
Visit the room with a family member or friend. Check the door locks, electricity and water supply, bathroom, parking area, and emergency exits. Ask about rent, the deposit, additional charges, access hours, and the conditions for returning your deposit.
Only pay a deposit after viewing the room, verifying the landlord or authorised representative, and reaching a clear agreement. Keep the rental agreement, receipts, or bank transfer records.
Step 4. Pack the Essentials
Bring personal documents, study materials, clothes, bedding, and toiletries. Check which items are already provided and the rules for using electrical appliances to avoid unnecessary purchases.
Step 5. Save Important Contact Details
Save the contact details of your accommodation manager, class advisor, and family members. Share your address with your family and agree on daily living arrangements with your roommates. In an emergency, you can contact your class advisor for support.
