The ABU Robocon 2018 champion returns

Returning after triumphing at the ABU Robocon 2018, LHU robot teams were warmly welcomed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on August 28 and afterwards at a welcoming ceremony held by the University. The welcoming ceremony saw the presence of Rector Do Huu Tai, the Management Board and leaders of units.

At the event, in addition to a formal welcoming ceremony, the champion was awarded VND 5 million-hot bonus by the University Trade Union.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Rector emphasized "This victory brings a lot of significant meaning for the Vietnamese people. In the future, Dong Nai province will support our University in investing modern equipment to reach the world. Hopefully in the coming years, the Robocon teams will maintain their style to bring pride to the country."

Representative of the University Management Board welcomed the champion at the airport.

Previously on August 26, at the Ninh Binh Sports Center, 19 teams from 18 countries and territories competed at ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2018. Two teams from LHU were LH - ATM (Vietnam 1) and LH - GALAXY (Vietnam 2) representing Vietnam to compete at the event.

The ceremony to welcome the champion of ABU Robocon 2018 specially took place at LHU.

The theme of the ABU Robocon 2018 is “Nem Con” (con throwing) - a popular folk game of northern ethnic minority people. The control robot will deliver the con to the automatic robot to throw towards the three rings on the field. The team who throws the yellow con through the ring that landed on a ground will win the game immediately.

At the competition, LH - ATM and LH - GALAXY teams defeated six strong teams from Egypt, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan and China to win the convincing victory in 16 seconds.

This is the LHU’s third championship at the ABU Robocon (earlier in 2014 and 2017). LHU is also the first team of Vietnam to win the championship title after three time hosting the contest in 2007, 2003 and 2018).

The 2019 ABU Robocon will be held in Mongolia.
