As part of its ongoing efforts to expand global partnerships, a delegation from LHU visited East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai, China, where the two institutions signed a MoU on June 4, 2026. The event marks an important milestone in LHU’s internationalization strategy, opening up new opportunities for academic exchange, collaborative research, student mobility, and global engagement for both students and faculty members.
Representing LHU at the signing ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lam Thanh Hien – Rector; Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh – Head of the Office of International Affairs; Dr. Nguyen Van Trung – Director of the Center of Admissions and Public Relations; and representatives from relevant university units.
ECNU is one of China’s leading public research universities, recognized for its strong academic reputation both nationally and internationally. According to the QS World University Rankings 2026, ECNU is ranked 433rd globally, while the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 places the University in the 251–300 global band and tied for 19th place in China. ECNU is also included in China’s prestigious Project 211 and Project 985 initiatives, which support the development of world-class universities through strategic government investment.
ECNU is particularly renowned for its strengths in Education, Social Sciences and Humanities, Languages, Natural Sciences, and other high-quality academic disciplines. The University is also widely recognized for its excellence in international Chinese language education, the training of Chinese language teachers, and the promotion of Chinese language and culture worldwide. These areas closely align with LHU’s educational development goals and its efforts to expand international learning experiences for students.
During the meeting, the two universities agreed on several key areas of cooperation. The partnership will focus on promoting academic and faculty exchanges, facilitating joint research activities, implementing student exchange programs, international semesters, and cultural summer camps, as well as co-organizing academic events, international conferences, and seminars. Both institutions also expressed interest in developing joint training opportunities, short-term programs, certificate courses, and sharing information on master’s and doctoral scholarship opportunities.
The signing of the MoU with ECNU not only expands LHU’s network of international partners but also reflects the University’s commitment to providing students with access to high-quality educational opportunities in a global learning environment. Through future collaborative programs, LHU students will have more opportunities to strengthen their language skills, enhance intercultural communication competencies, broaden their global perspectives, and better prepare for their academic and professional journeys.
For faculty members, the partnership creates new opportunities for professional exchange, collaborative research, joint academic events, and the development of innovative scholarly initiatives within an international environment. Such opportunities play an important role in enhancing the quality of education and research while reinforcing the University’s academic standing.
In an era when higher education becomes increasingly internationalized, partnerships with prestigious institutions such as ECNU hold significant strategic value for LHU’s long-term development. Beyond the agreement, both universities expect to translate their shared commitments into concrete initiatives, including academic exchanges, faculty mobility, joint research, and meaningful academic activities.
In recent years, LHU has continuously expanded its partnerships with reputable educational institutions worldwide, fostering a dynamic, modern, and globally oriented learning environment for its students. The partnership with ECNU further reinforces the university’s commitment to internationalization and lays a strong foundation for long-term cooperation and mutual growth in the years ahead.
LHU looks forward to deepening its relationship with ECNU and creating meaningful opportunities that will benefit students, faculty members, and both institutions.
