The final round of 12th ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2013 was kicked of at Tien Son Sports Palace, Da Nang city on August 18. The contest theme “The green planet" drew the participation of 19 teams from universities and colleges of 18 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam had two teams (LH - SEE and LH NVN EAGLE) from Dong Nai- based Lac Hong University.
Team Vietnam 1 (LH - SEE) from LHU took second prize at the 2013 ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest.
This is the fourth consecutive time the Lac Hong University from Dong Nai province has represented the country at the regional competition, winning second prize three times.
The two teams of Vietnam has overcome qualifying rounds to enter the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. In the first semi round, Vietnam 2 has been defeated by Japanese team, accepting the third place despite a faster start. In the last semi round, Vietnam 1 competed with Indonesia team. In spite of slower speed, finally Vietnam 1 won an impressively absolute victory.
After defeating Indonesia in the semi-finals, Vietnam 1 came into the final round against Japanese with hopes of winning the champion title. However, their dream was crushed due to a slower speed. Japanese team from Japanese team from Kanazawa Institute of Technology defeated the Vietnamese team to win the championship this year while Vietnam 2 (LH NVN EAGLE) and Indonesia teams shared third prize.
Beside the three main prizes, the contest organizers also presented the “Best Idea Award” to the Egypt team, “Best Design” to Vietnam 2, and “Best Technology” to Hong Kong and ABU Robocon Award to Indonesia team.
Next year, India will host the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest. The contest theme "A Salute for Parenthood" will aim at raising relations in family.
ABU Robocon 2013 attracted the participation of 19 teams from 18 countries in the Asia and the Pacific region namely Egypt, India, Brunei, Fiji, South Korea, Kazakhstan, China (Hong Kong) , Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Mongolia, Russia, Japan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand và Viet Nam. Representing Vietnam was two teams from Lac Hong University (LH - SEE and LH NVN EAGLE). Vietnam was the host of ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest for the second time since 2007. The event was sponsored by Toyota Motor Vietnam.
